Stress fracture of upper third tibia secondary to severe osteoarthritis of knee is very common in our country. Patients postpone their surgery for various reasons and walk with deformed knee . Varus deformity is the commonest due to sitting cross legged habit . Posteromedial condyle of tibia usually has defect and that leads to varus and flexion deformity of knee .continuous walking on deformed knee leads to further stress on upper third tibia and result to stress fracture.
Surgery after such complications is more difficult and needs extra rod to tibial baseplate to manage and support fracture.
“Stich in time saves nine”
So opting surgery before such complications is always beneficial for patients .
